China refuses to take blame for Lanka’s doom; Points at US sanctions for crisis

- Amid criticism from the US of China's unproductive projects and opaque loan deals among the reasons for Sri Lanka's bankruptcy, Beijing defended its massive infrastructure ventures and investments in crisis-hit island nation. "The China-Sri Lanka practical cooperation has always been led by Sri Lanka with scientific planning and thorough verification with no strings attached. Chinese projects have boosted Sri Lanka's economic development, and brought tangible benefits to the Sri Lankan people," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian. He was responding to a question on the criticism of China's projects and policies towards Sri Lanka by the USAID administrator Samantha Power in India. Watch this video for more details.
