  • Sri Lanka President Ranil Wickremesinghe's day 1 in office turned into a nightmare for anti-government protesters. Hours before they were to evacuate all government building where they were protesting, Wickremesinghe unleashed Sri Lankan army on them. Several videos on social media showed late night crackdown by the army, removing protesters from protest site at Galle Face in Colombo. As daylight broke, dozens of troops in riot gear marched through the area and rows of protest tents that stood on both sides of the main road that passes in front of the president’s secretariat completely cleared out. At least 50 protesters were injured, the organisers said, including some journalists who were beaten by security forces. Nine protesters have been arrested so far. Watch this video for more details.
