Over 2 million Italians joined a nationwide strike on October 3 in solidarity with Palestine, halting public transport, flights, schools, and hospitals across the country. Milan and Rome saw some of the largest pro-Palestinian demonstrations in decades, with 100,000 protesters rallying in Milan and 300,000 in Rome. Clashes erupted in Milan after protesters blocked highways, prompting police to respond with smoke bombs. The CGIL trade union, which organized the strike, demanded the Meloni government “stop the genocide” and recognize Palestine, following the Israeli navy’s interception of the Global Sumud flotilla carrying 40 Italians. Major cities including Turin, Pisa, Bologna, and Pescara experienced similar shutdowns, with the Port of Livorno blocked by protesters. Watch for more
