Trump tariff showdown: India rejects U.S. pressure, defends Russian Oil ties

U.S.-India tensions flared after Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick described India, along with Brazil and Switzerland, as countries “to fix,” demanding New Delhi open its markets and align with Washington’s trade and energy policies. India blasted new American tariff penalties as “unjustified” and defended its discounted Russian oil imports, which Lutnick called “plain wrong” and “ridiculous.” Declaring its foreign policy non-negotiable, New Delhi reaffirmed multi-alignment and filed grounds at the WTO for retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods.
