Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has warned that Europe is facing a deep crisis, pointing to weakened security, internal divisions and mounting global threats. Speaking in Bratislava, Fico questioned whether the European Union can still function as a global power or risks becoming marginalised. A vocal critic of the EU’s approach to the Ukraine conflict, Fico argued that efforts to phase out Russian gas have hurt Europe’s industrial competitiveness. He has also blocked Slovakia’s participation in a proposed €140 billion EU military funding package for Kyiv, saying the bloc is “shooting itself in the knee” by prolonging a war that should be resolved through negotiations.
