I’m planning to buy the Mahindra XUV 7XO Diesel Automatic. Which variant gives the best value for money?
Confused between XUV 7XO Diesel Automatic variants? We break down features, safety and pricing to find the best value-for-money option.
The Mahindra XUV 7XO has been officially launched in India, bringing much-needed updates to the popular three-row offering under a new nameplate. Available in six trims, AX, AX3, AX5, AX7, AX7T, and AX7L, the SUV can be had in both petrol and diesel versions. Prices for the XUV 7XO diesel range from ₹14.96 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base AX3 variant with the 6MT and go up to ₹24.11 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-spec AX7L with the 6AT. However, Mahindra has loaded the SUV with all the necessary features and tech straight from the base model. To this effect, buyers looking for the most value-for-money variant with the diesel-AT configuration can opt for the AX3, priced at ₹17.94 lakh (ex-showroom).
Mahindra XUV 7XO AX3 Diesel-AT: Exterior details
Buyers looking at the lower end of the lineup need not worry about the optics as the top-spec variants carry minimal changes to set them apart. You get the updated face with the new grille featuring single-slat chrome accents, as well as the dual-barrel LED projector headlights with the LED DRLs. The Ice Cube LED foglamps and cornering lamps are reserved for the top-spec AX7T variants, but you do get electrically folding ORVMs with Auto Fold as well as a rear wiper.
The silhouette largely remains identical to the top trims, with the only difference being the 17-inch wheels with steel covers. The more premium variants get the 18/19-inch alloys. The rear fascia of the AX3 does not vary from the top-spec XUV 7XO.
Mahindra XUV 7XO AX3 Diesel-AT: Interior and tech suite
Stepping inside reveals that Mahindra is offering the coast-to-coast 31.24cm triple-screen display on all variants in the lineup, so buyers can rest assured that they are not missing out on premium equipment. While the top-spec models get their cabin upholstered in leatherette and soft-touch materials, the AX3 carries fabric upholstery and hard plastics for the interior trim. The three-spoke steering wheel has been carried over from the outgoing model instead of the new two-spoke unit found higher up in the range. Buyers will also miss out on the panoramic sunroof, reading lamps, and retractable sun visors.
On the tech front, the XUV 7XO AX3 carries all the essentials, including wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, push-button start/stop, drive modes, and cruise control. It misses out on the 16-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system, but its 6-speaker setup is more than adequate. While higher trims get power-adjustable front seats, the AX3 does the job with a 6-way manually adjustable driver’s seat, front armrests with storage and height-adjustable seatbelts.

Mahindra XUV 7XO AX3 Diesel-AT: Safety package
The AX3 brings a comprehensive safety suite with 6 airbags, ABS and EBD, ESC, hill driving aids, and ISOFIX child seat mounts. It also adds a rearview camera with dynamic guidelines. Buyers going for this variant will miss out on the Level-2 ADAS suite, 540-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, and a TPMS. These are, however, safety features that are worth missing out on if you care to save more.
