Robert Fico New Year speech: Peace, sovereignty & stability for Slovakia in 2026

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico delivered his New Year 2026 address marking the 33rd anniversary of Slovakia’s independence, calling for peace, sovereignty, and social stability ahead of a pivotal election year. Speaking candidly, Fico warned of rising political polarization, rejected street politics and violence, and emphasized democratic competition through free elections. He strongly opposed Slovakia’s involvement in the war in Ukraine, urging peaceful coexistence among nations.
